I designed this logo whilst on holiday at the end of last year for an Airbnb apartment called Serendipity in Queenstown, New Zealand. The apartment is set in the Otago region with a view over the Southern Alps and Shotover River. Just being there and immersed in the countries landscape and rich culture gave me lots of inspiration for the design. Specifically, the native Māori art with its strikingly beautiful and unique style.
This became my influence and by sketching some visuals I was able to apply some of the more commonly used patterns to my design. The scroll-like shape of the S in Serendipity helped create a central structure for the organic looking emblem, with its unfurling fronds, that typify the young shoots of a growing fern.
The result is a Māori style motif that references New Zealand’s indigenous people and strong kiwi culture.
